The 21 VLX combines Malibu performance and features at a more budget-friendly price. Don’t think cheaper means a lackluster wave, though, because this boat will surprise you.

What You Get
The 21 VLX is one of the most versatile in the Malibu line. How much versatility you want is up to you — you can choose between the Diamond Multisport Hull or the Wake Plus Hull. The boat we tested featured the Diamond Multisport Hull, and the wave was impressive, especially for a shorter, narrower boat. The more mellow shape has more power than you’d expect for a 21-foot boat. The pocket is still easy to find and stay in, as well.

Who It’s For
A versatile boat like the 21 VLX is perfect for users who want to do a bit of everything and don’t need today’s bigger wake machines. The wave has a moderate shape that can accommodate a variety of riders. While not as big as the bigger Malibu boats, it still has plenty of power, which is great for beginners and more-advanced riders looking to progress.
