The new M94D from Icom is the first handheld VHF with a built-in AIS receiver, enabling boaters to track AIS-equipped vessels on the radio display for greater safety on waterways with a high amount of boat traffic. An AIS call function allows you to set up an individual call easily with a boat showing up as an AIS target. Plus, the DSC function enables automatic distress calls with the rear panel button.

The M94D also features 6 watts of transmission power and class-leading audio output with improved acoustic sound clarity. The new handheld has gained more battery power for an extended operation of up to 10 hours. This VHF also enables boaters to assign up to 50 waypoints with the enhanced navigation feature.

Like other Icom handheld models, the M94D has Float’n Flash to help locate the floating waterproof radio if it goes in drink. The AquaQuake function sheds water from the speaker once the VHF is recovered, ensuring you can hear transmissions clearly even after the radio has been submerged. The Man Overboard function is included for operator protection. Pressing the distress button while Float’n Flash is activated will transmit the MOB distress signal, allowing the operator to be more quickly and easily located. $299.99; icomamerica.com
