How to DIY Install an Audio System

With the help of West Marine, Randy Vance helps his buddy install a new JL Audio system on his center console.

Boating’s Randy Vance recently helped a friend install a new JL Audio system on his Flats center console boat. Before diving into the hard work, Randy stopped by his local West Marine store to check out their new audio room where you can test out the product before getting started on your DIY project. The sound-controlled audio room allows you to hear for yourself what your new speakers might sound like with the simple push of a button.

The project itself was relatively simple – Randy’s pal Dennis wanted to mount the audio system’s source unit (the JL Audio MediaMaster 50) in his electronics box, connecting it to his Garmin display so it’s easy to control while on the water. Randy left West Marine with a pair of JL Audio M3-650s and the MediaMaster 50 and headed to Dennis’ house to install the new system.
