How To Peak Your Transducer

Go manual for optimum fishfinder performance.

How To Peak Your Transducer

To see a display such as the one on pictured on your fishfinder, you have to do two things. One, position the boat over a school of fish! Second, adjust the power output using these five steps.

Step 1. Set the Gain To Manual
Step 2. Set the Range To Manual
Step 3. Adjust the range to three times the water’s depth.
Step 4. Punch up the gain until a “second echo ” of the bottom appears on the screen.
Step 5. Adjust the range to a setting appropriate to the actual depth.

Now your fishfinder’s power output is matched for the depth and bottom composition you are fishing over. If you move to a different depth (like one “range setting” difference, for instance), repeat the procedure.
